Again this year’s annual Labor Day Barbecue Party was at the home of my friends, David and Enid / Dynamism. There was delicious food, interesting people and always special continuous entertainment to listen and dance to.

But for me, above all, I enjoy listening to Mary sing.

Mary’s been a regular party guest for many years. She is a warm, sociable, gracious, delightful, loving lady who usually keeps quietly to herself. But when you ask her how life has been treating her, she always has a colorful story to tell – and she tells her stories with enthusiasm, revealing a confidence that defies her age. Mary has an attitude all of her own, a certainty I truly admire.

Mary is a professional singer, doing gigs at night clubs. She is a regular at the annual Dixieland Jazz Festival at the Town and Country Resort Hotel in Mission Valley during the Thanks Giving holiday season.

Mary is one classy dresser, still wearing stiletto heels to compliment each outfit. She is sharp, alert and physically strong. What amazes me most is that Mary will be 98 years old this year – and can she sing.
